Diamonds & Desserts Honoring Wegi Stewart
Wegi Stewart grew up in Decatur where she attended Catholic and public schools before going to boarding school in St. Louis for high school. She graduated from Georgetown University in Washington DC and returned to Decatur where she married and had three children before entering the workforce in 1989.
Wegi’s career has been in the non-profit and government sectors with many of her working years spent with local foundations including Decatur Memorial Foundation and Richland Community College Foundation. She currently leads The Community Foundation of Macon County as its president. She oversees $27 million in assets, more than 250 donor funds, and the Decatur Area Education Coalition. “Every day at The Foundation is unique. I love what I do. Our donors are generous, caring people, and it’s rewarding to help the community become a better home for all who live here and those who will live here in the future.”
Wegi enjoys reading, cooking and occasionally completing a needlepoint project. Grandchildren top her list of favorite people; she has six and hopes for more! Travel includes regular trips to St. Louis where several grandchildren (and their parents) live, jaunts to Tampa to visit her sister, and annual trips to Colorado where she watches other people ski.
