FAQs

What should I do to prepare for the event?
There is a banner contest for troops. You can work on your banner now and submit a picture of the banner by April 19th.  See the flyer for complete details.

Contact your legislators and request a meeting that day. Find out more about the General Assembly here

You will have time to exchange SWAPS with your sister Girl Scouts. Take some time before May to make SWAPS (there are lots of ideas on-line).

What should I do for lunch?
Bring a lunch – you can leave in in the car and when you get back to the convention center, have a picnic lunch.

Lunch at the convention center – the snack bar at the convention center will be open, but it is snack food – nachos, pretzels, etc.

Lunch downtown – there are a few places you can eat in downtown Springfield.  The rally will end around 11:00 a.m. at the Capitol. So, you can schedule lunch  between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to eat and explore downtown.

Can siblings attend?
Yes, all families are invited. If a sibling wants to participate in the activities, we ask that you register the sibling.

Can I have a more detailed list of activities?

  • 9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. – check in at the convention center
  • 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. – We will march from the convention center to the Capitol.  It is about 7 blocks and awesome to be so many of your sister Girl Scouts.
  • 10:30 .am. - 11:00 a.m. – There is a rally at the Capitol steps with a few speakers.
  • 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. – At this time you will have some free time to explore downtown and eat lunch. A lot of girls will go into the Capitol and look around.  If you want a tour of Capitol, you have to book it with the Visitors Center. The Illinois State Museum is right behind the Capitol. The Old State Capitol, Lincoln’s home, and the Lincoln Presidential Museum are also down town.  You can always go back downtown after 3 (which is what I would recommend).
  • 12:30 p.m. - 2:20 p.m. – Back at the Convention Center we will have booths for girls to visit. Some booths are activities that girls can work on their citizenship badge. And other booths are led by various community partners.
  • 2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. – We have a closing ceremony at the convention center.
