Our National Delegates have received the Call to Meeting from GSUSA for a special session of the National Council to discuss increasing membership dues. The call to the meeting includes two specific proposals to change the cost of membership for youth and adult members. Additionally, GSUSA has provided a proposal video (passcode:@vHeA5x0) with more informaiton. GSUSA has encouraged sharing this with all members.
At this time, no specific action has been taken. We will not know the outcome until the National Council comes together on October 19, 2024. In the meantime, we want to assure you our top priority is to be transparent with our members and keep you updated as we learn more.
GSUSA has recommended a national dues increase to take effect for Membership Year 2026. There are two proposals - one for girl membership and one for adult membership. There are varied options of price points, and the approach could include a staggered increase and an opportunity for the first time ever to share some of these dues with the council.
The first proposal is for girl membership, the GSUSA National Board of Directors recommends a proposal for $85 to implement as follows:
- in membership year 2026, girl membership dues would be $68,
- in membership year 2027, girl membership dues would be $77, and
- in membership year 2028, girl membership dues would be at the approved $85.
The second proposal is for adult membership. The GSUSA National Board of Directors recommends a $45 membership fee to implement for 2026. There is no phased implementation plan for adult membership dues.
We understand that any proposed changes to membership dues are concerning and know the financial impact and hardship a potential increase can bring to families. If the final decision results in dues increase, know that Girl Scouts of Central Illinois remains committed to ensuring that our programming is accessible to all Girl Scouts, regardless of economic background or financial situation.
